How Fabrizio Romano helped Barcelona make quick money off artificial hype around Mikayil Faye:
Faye was signed by Barca for 5m and he was pretty bad for Barca B team.
Faye received most yellow cards (9) and most red cards (2) playing Barca B team in 35 matches making him worst defender of Barca B team in 23/24 season. Now barca want to offload him. Then started the PR game.
1.Barca registered Faye with the senior team despite his young age. Xavi publicly said he was “ready,” and Barca fans, as usual, amplified the propaganda.
2.Barca even gave him a ridiculous €400M release clause despite having zero senior minutes.
3. Fraudizio Romano jumped in with multiple glowing posts. He rarely does this for youth players without senior minutes, yet he gave Faye at least four dedicated posts before any debut.
4.After 6 months of hype, during the 2024 summer window, Fraudizio pushed the narrative that Faye was a hot prospect with multiple clubs chasing him. He even claimed Porto wanted him for €12M while Barça valued him at €15M.
5.Rennes fell for the PR stunt and signed him for €10M — an inflated fee for an unproven youth player.
6.Rennes realized: Faye was a benchwarmer, managing only a few minutes across 12 matches all season for Rennes.
7.At the first chance, Rennes shipped him out on loan to newly promoted Cremonese in Italy. Today, he sat the full 90 minutes on the bench against Verona, despite the team playing with a back three.
8.Faye’s struggles continue. Just one national team appearance in 2024, and nothing to justify the manufactured hype.
Footnote: A well coordinated PR job can fool not just casual fans, but even clubs.
