Benfica veteran Nicolas Otamendi and manager Bruno Lage discussed the future of left-back Alvaro Carreras, a target for Real Madrid.
Otamendi praised Carreras’ humility and work ethic, stating, “Alvaro is a very humble and hard-working boy. If he gets the opportunity, I believe he can succeed [at Real Madrid].”
Lage noted Carreras’ improvement, saying, “He started the game very inconsistently, but then he improved. We’re very happy with him, and Alvaro is very happy to be at Benfica.”
Despite interest from Real Madrid, who are pushing for a transfer post-Club World Cup, both emphasized Carreras’ current contentment at Benfica.
Reports suggest a move to Real Madrid could be imminent, with negotiations ongoing, though Benfica’s president Rui Costa has described Real Madrid’s offers as insufficient.
